Call up : Nick Bonino

The Ducks have called up Nick Bonino. Maybe he can help with Anaheims troubles. Hey it’s worth a shot.

So…what’s their excuse now?

Last year, we had a young team. Everyone knew it. There were excuses a’plenty, many of them perfectly legitimate, as to why we sat through game after game of sloppy, uninspired, boring, disconnected hockey.

After a weekend of similar games, I’m just wondering what possible excuses the team we have now could come up with.

The line up we have should have none. End of story. Our goaltenders have gotten hung out to dry the last two nights with a D that’s has no apparent problem with letting the other team walk right up and take shot after shot. Meanwhile, some of our forwards couldn’t find the net if it was a soccer goal. Dan Sexton’s game has regressed so much he should be in juniors right now. I don’t know if it’s his shot confidence or what, but if he can’t play the game with intelligence anymore then perhaps he needs to be traded to somewhere and get a fresh start. Players like John Mitchell who look lost need to be thrown down to the ECHL.

I’m not sure what’ll shake this group up now, other than some big changes in players and lines. In the past four games, the team has lost three and won one. The three we’ve lost have been against some of the top talent in the AHL. The one we won was not. That’s not a good indication of our longevity potential.

The sad thing is, this team IS a good team. We have so much goddamned talent. You watch the goals some of these players can make and you can’t help but think this should be a Cup contender. And yet somehow we’ve gotten lost along the way. I wasn’t worried last Sunday. I’m concerned now. We’ve gotten embarrassed on their own ice two nights in a row by teams we should have at least kept up with, and none of the Crunch seemed to care enough to try to change it.

I just don’t understand what’s happened.

I do know I’m tired of this. Play the goddamned game or stay home. Don’t even show up to the rink if you don’t want to try. This shit better be different next weekend. Get it together.

Some links from today

I don’t normally do this, but I found a few links today rather interesting:

–Crunch broadcaster Jason Lockhart did a piece on Duck prospect Peter Holland for theahl.com. It can be found here.

–TSN published a piece this afternoon about western NHL teams and the mostly-eastern-orientated AHL. I know this has been a concern of ANA fans for years now. Everyone might want to take a look, but especially developmentally-minded Duck fans. That one can be found here.

My two cents: Although I’m not so sure I’d like another developmental league–there’s a sense of pride involved–I’m sure the A would welcome some kind of western expansion. The problem, from what I’ve heard, is trying to find an audience for that kind of thing. The CHL kind of covers that area, but even there teams have been jumping ship from the CHL to the ECHL in the past few years. There have also been a few teams in that league closing their doors. It’s tough, and I’m not sure there’s many great answers. What do you guys think?

Poll time!

With the not-so-surprising news that Maroon has been called up to join the Ducks on their road swing, we’re faced with an interesting quandary. Palroonino is no more. What happens now?
