Captain… Someone… Will Get Us By Tonight

Really… is anyone surprised that with the addition of Mathieu Roy as a bubble player, Dan Smith has been ousted from the Columbus organization?  The only thing I didn’t see coming was the name “Mathieu Roy.”  In fact, the only way it could have surprised me was if the name was “Clay Wilson.”  (Not a fan.)

I’m not big on the fancy-pantses, the playmakers, the guys with polish, the finishers.  Nope, give me a hockey player who will go into the corner with a guy six inches taller, who will fight for the puck, who will throw himself in front of the goal two, five, ten times a game.  Sure, somebody’s gotta put up the numbers, and everyone needs their Derick Brassards and Nikita Filatovs and Derek MacKenzies.  They’re the big names, the ones you read about.  They’re the guys at the All-Star game.  But at the end of the year when the awards are given out, I’ll take the guy named “Unsung Hero” or the guy who can’t attend the awards because he’s too busy immersing his black-and-blue limbs in a bucket of ice. An Interview with Kyle Neuber

For those of you that don’t know Kyle Neuber, he was the 7th round pick, #197 overall in the 2009 NHL entry draft by the Columbus Bluejackets. Kyle grew up in Ottawa, was born on March 22, 1989,  stands 6’2″ and weighs in around 220lbs.
